Healing Gardens

In his various appointments, Fr Jim has been instrumental in creating several healing gardens. Each garden is specifically designed to give inspiration and healing to those who spend time there. Read on for more details of these special sacred places.

Memorial Garden Kilmore Quay

In the village of Kilmore Quay and overlooking the Saltee Islands is a memorial Trail and Garden dedicated to people lost at sea. This was a millennium project that is quite unique in that it is not only a memorial to those who have drowned, but also a symbolic journey of recovery for those who have lost loved ones. Its unique design, featuring a sunken ship, captures the universal experience of loss and recovery by combining the natural landscape with the use of nautical symbols.

Raphael's Garden Oylegate
In the Churchyard of Oylegate between Enniscorthy and Wexford are three gardens. The first adjacent to the Main Road and close to the entrance is ‘Raphael’s Healing Garden’. This depicts a scene from the Old Testament Book of Tobit that offers a timeless message of Healing.

Tree of Life Garden Oylegate

In between the Church and the Cemetery is the Tree of Life Garden that reflects the new life that comes forth from death. At the central feature of the garden is a hand, sculptured from local stone, holding a child with a heart. This is a beautiful tribute to loved ones who have passed on and acknowledgement of children lost before or after birth.

The Narrow Gate Garden Oylegate

Nearby is the Narrow Gate Garden. This is a tight entrance into a shrine where an angel holds a child. To enter one has to let go of everything and squeeze through. This is symbolic of the need to release emotions and loved ones as an essential part of the grieving process before reconnecting in Spirit.

The Resurrection Garden Our Lady's Island

The Resurrection Garden is situated close to the end of the ancient pilgrimage Path in Our Lady’s Island. It encloses the old Druids Well and depicts in wooden sculptures Christ greeting Mary Magdalene on Easter Morning. Between them stands the empty tomb. This garden is really the 15th Station of the Cross with the earlier ones on view in the Castle Courtyard.
